Grooming Tips For Your Shar Pei

Grooming your Shar Pei is not an added burden for the dog owner, but should be apart of its basic care. In this way they will adjust to regular baths and brushings. But keep in mind that a Shar Pei living in a rural setting will require a different amount of grooming than a Shar Pei in a penthouse in the city.
In my case, I decided to approach the process of grooming my Shar Pei by starting out with something simple such as regularly brushing my pet when I felt their fur was too dusty. From there I moved on to more advanced forms of dog grooming.
Shar Peis, as a breed are shorthaired, but their fur can get dusty, because it is also an active breed of dog. Above all, it is necessary to ensure that grooming your Shar Pei is done on a periodic basis.
However, if your busy schedule will not allow you to find the time grooming your Shar Pei, it is recommended that they have regular trips to the professional groomers.

Grooming At Home Is Not As Hard As You Imagine

There are number of items required for what you will need to groom your Shar Pei. As long as you have these items, it was not hard to carry out the grooming process. Overall, a Shar Pei grooming kit should consist of nail clippers, brushes, hand towels, cotton balls, and dog shampoo.
The list provided above is just some of what you will need to groom your Shar Pei. Since these items are not the only items needed, it is best to add to this list depending on the animal. A younger Shar Pei who is more active would require more grooming
A grooming ritual is ideal for pet owners who worry about having a smelly dog throughout the house. In this way, the problem is taken care of before it occurs.
When it came time to groom my Shar Pei, the task seemed so much easier having all of the items previously mentioned within reach of the area where the grooming was taking place.

Going Canoeing With Your Shar Pei

I can't think of a better way to spend a summer afternoon than canoeing with my Shar Pei! We both wear lifejackets but I usually soak his with water prior to putting it on, this helps cool him down if it gets too hot outside.
Shar Peis' will usually get pretty excited at the prospect of canoeing, so I always take him for a walk along the shoreline first to get the jitters out. This helps reduce the risk of capsizing because my dog is filled with too much energy.
To begin, start with the canoe on dry land and just hang out in it with your dog, offering treats and praise as he explores. Then get him to practice jumping in and out of the canoe, again offering treats and praise.
When you do set sail, stay close to the shore line and keep the trips under an hour to help him adjust to this new way of traveling.

Giving Your Shar Pei Its Own Living Space

Creating a living space for your Shar Pei puppy is necessary for them to be integrated into your family. It will also help them transition form being taken away from their mother. However, this would depend on their age.
The dog should be given a corner of a room where its bed can be placed.
Even though there were a number of dog beds to choose from when visiting the pet shop, I thought it best to choose one that the Shar Pei puppy could grow into.
Some people have even gone so far as to recreate miniature versions of their house in their backyard. But in the end, it is of course whatever you can afford.

Getting Your Shar Pei To Walk On A Loose Leash

My Shar Pei was always pulling on his leash during our walks and it was making the walk quite difficult for me. To teach him to walk nicely and keep the leash loose between us, I headed outside with a pocketful of tasty treats.
I held the leash close to my stomach and began walking with my Shar Pei. As soon as he placed any tension on the leash, I refused to move any further.
It didn't matter what he did to lessen the tension, as long as the leash became slack again I would treat him and we would continue walking.
I repeated this process over and over again on our walks, until my Shar Pei soon understood that a loose leash meant we could walk farther without stopping.

Getting A Shar Pei Puppy

My wife and I agreed that we would adopt a dog. We both knew that we wanted a Shar Pei puppy because we had both had tem as children.
Everyone gave their two cents about who was the best breeder and we were having trouble choosing. How do you choose the right Shar Pei breeder?
After checking enough references to staff a small company we had finally narrowed it down to three quality breeders. After a visit with each of them it was clear which breeder was right for us, and we for them.
We brought our Shar Pei puppy home a few weeks later and have never been more pleased. Our breeder gave us such a wonderful gift that we now consider her part of the family!
